once upon a time
Born in a well-knit (read: incredibly but discreetly magic) community in a small part of Southern Wales, Powell Whitney was a blessing unto his parents. His father, a rather quick-tempered and immature man for his age (24, but does that say much?) and his mother, a well-grounded but cautious 23 year old, were delighted to find that their son had such a lovely temperament. From the get-go, Powell rarely cried or fussed, and easily communicated his desires with simple whines and whimpers until he learned to speak.
Being that the majority of people in his town were magical persons, Powell grew up with magic as a typical and often necessary part of life. When he was finally of age, he was sent to Blodeuwedd School of Witchcraft & Wizardry, a wizarding school for years one-through-seven about an hour or two from his home. Despite being wary of joining at first (contact sports not exactly interesting to him), Powell became a Chaser for the Adelaide (similar to Hufflepuff) Quidditch team in his second year, scoring a majority of their points and keeping them in first place among the three houses while he played.
He went through a mildly rebellious stage in his fifth year, mind you, shocking his mother with a tattoo and a piercing that none of them mention to this day. (He might show you. If you ask nicely.)
Things were going smoothly, and Powell was beginning to decide on a career path toward healing, considering how well he'd done fixing up his team-mates after Quidditch practices, and the fact that he was excellent with charms. Then, disaster decided to strike.
Disaster, of course, being the Death Eaters that so generously overthrew their school's headmaster and the rest of the professors, leaving the students with nowhere to go but home. Or, many of them assumed that was the only place to go.
However, Powell's mother had heard of Anima Eterna via word of mouth from a friend, and she soon convinced him to start his seventh year there. After all, it was better than home, with the Death Eaters so close by.
note: powell's history goes along with a complex and detailed plot/alternate universe relating to the harry potter series called anima eterna, hence the odd references.
it's true!
He owns a Harris's Hawk named St. Augustine. It's unclear who picked the name.
He likes star-gazing and his favorite elective in schooling was Astronomy.
He enjoys cooking but doubts he's any good.
He began Apparating at age 16.
He hates confrontation and avoids it at all costs.
His favorite drink is hot chocolate.
He becomes a different person when he drinks; he's far more open and talkative, and he doesn't censor himself at all. He laughs far more than he does when he's sober (which is virtually never) and (in his opinion) is wittier.
He has large hands, so when he was getting fitted to his wand, he went through about half the wand-maker's wands before it was noted that none of them were big enough to swish-and-flick correctly in his hand. (oh, trust us, he's worn out the innuendo on this one) His wand is 15'' long, and made of birch.
His patronus is a Siberian tiger.
He never figured he'd be good at Quidditch-- in fact, never really liked sports because they're inherently full of competition and confrontation. But he happened to enjoy flying, and was doing so nearby a quidditch practice at his old school when a Quaffle went astray. He intended to hit it back to them, and coincidentally made one of the makeshift goals. He played as a Chaser for three years until his school was attacked and taken down.
He hates citrus fruits.
When it comes to friendships with certain personalities, he often finds himself warming up to easily excited, happy people. He enjoys the attitude and the energy they exude.
He went through a period of lankiness in his second and third year when he shot up almost ten full inches, but grew into his much-taller frame by sixteen years old.
